How Did God Solve Man’s Problem? | GOD’s PROVISION

This presentation (a.k.a The Gospel in ‘P’s) is structured around what I call the four ‘P’sPurpose, Problem, Provision and Potential.

In our first lesson in this series, we saw that God’s PURPOSE for creating Man (in His image) was RELATIONSHIP.

In the second lesson, we saw that Man’s PROBLEM (which derailed God’s Purpose) was SEPARATION from God … caused by SIN and DEATH.

In this, our third lesson, we will investigate what the Bible says about God’s PROVISION.

  1. According to John 10:30-31, why did the people take up stones to stone Jesus?
  2. According to John 10:33, what reason did the Jews give for taking up stones to stone Jesus?

John 20:26-28   And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. How did the death of Jesus Christ affect us?

2 Corinthians 5:18-19  Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them ….

2 Corinthians 5:21  God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Galatians 4:4-5  … God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

1 John 2:2 My little children … if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

Romans 6:1-4   What shall we say then?  Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?  Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?  Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?  Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:7  For he who has died has been freed from sin.

Romans 7:1-6    Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law [a]has dominion over a man as long as he lives?  For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.  So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.  Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another — to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.  For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.  But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Romans 8:1-2    There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Questions

  1. According to 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, what three things did Jesus do?
  2. How did God reconcile us to Himself?
  3. According to 2 Corinthians 5:21, what did God do so that we might become the righteousness of God?
  4. Why did Jesus say He was the life?
  5. What is Jesus the propitiation for?
  6. What did Jesus make it possible for people in the world to receive?

1 Corinthians 15:12-19   Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?  13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.  14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.   15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up — if in fact the dead do not rise.  16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.  17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!  18 Then also those who have [c]fallen asleep in Christ have perished.  19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

1 Corinthians 15:20-28   But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have [d]fallen asleep.  21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.  22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.   23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.  24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.  25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

  • When you know what rests on the resurrection, you know why if in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

i. The divinity of Jesus rests on the resurrection of Jesus (Romans 1:4).

ii. The sovereignty of Jesus rests on the resurrection of Jesus (Romans 14:9).

iii. Our justification rests on the resurrection of Jesus (Romans 4:25).

iv. Our regeneration rests on the resurrection of Jesus (1 Peter 1:3).

v. Our ultimate resurrection rests on the resurrection of Jesus (Romans 8:11).

vi. “The fact is, that the silver thread of resurrection runs through all the blessings, from regeneration onward to our eternal glory, and binds them together.” (Spurgeon)

Colossians 3:1-4    If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

How was Jesus Christ able to do what He did for us?

John 14:20  At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

  1. According to John 14:20, where was Christ?
  2. According to John 14:20, where were the disciples?

Acts 17:26-28   And He has made from one blood every nation of men… 27 so that they should seek the Lord… though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being ….

Ephesians 1:3-4  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christjust as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Ephesians 3:8-10  Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God — and righteousness and sanctification and redemption —

1 Peter 5:14 Greet one another with a kiss of love.  Peace to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

1 John 2:5-6 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

1 Corinthians 15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

Romans 16:7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

Galatians 1:22 And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ.

Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

Philippians 4:21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus.   The brethren who are with me greet you.

Colossians 1:2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 2:14 For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans,
